Upon course completion students will have the ability to define general industry terms found in the OSHA General Industry Standards, identify hazards which occur in general industry, locate and determine appropriate OSHA General Industry Standards, policies, and procedures, and describe the use of OSHA General Industry Standards and regulations to supplement an ongoing safety and health program.

Which one is right for your needs, 10hr or 30 hr?

OSHA Standards for Construction 10-hour course is an introductory course for workers to understand the basics of workplace safety, covering:

  • Recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of workplace safety and health hazards.

  • Information regarding workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint.

This course is suitable for entry-level workers in construction and general industries.

OSHA Standards for Construction 30-hour course is more comprehensive and is tailored for supervisors, managers, or workers with some safety responsibility. It delves deeper into specific hazards and methods to prevent them, covering:

  • Detailed discussions on safety and health topics particular to the industry.

  • Training on the identification, prediction, avoidance, and prevention of hazards.

  • Information on rights of workers and responsibilities of employers.

OSHA Standards for Construction 30-hour course is designed for Leads, Supervisors, Managers, Safety Committee Members, and Workers with Safety Responsibilities.

OSHA 30-Hour Safety Training Construction workers

Mandatory Topics (14 Hours)
  • Introduction to OSHA (1 hours)
    • Rights of workers
    • Responsibilities of employers
    • How to file a complaint
  • Managing Safety and Health (2 hours)
  • OSHA Focus Four Hazards (6 hours)
    • Falls (minimum of 1 hour and 30 min)
    • Electrocution
    • Struck-By (e.g., falling objects, trucks, cranes)
    • Caught-In or Between (e.g., trench hazards, equipment)
  • Personal Protective Equipment (2 hours)
  • Health Hazards in Construction (2 hours)
  • Stairways and Ladders (1 hour)

Elective Topics (12 Hours)
Must present at least 12 hours of training on the following topics. At least six of the topics must be presented. The minimum length of any topic is 30 minutes, except for Foundations for Safety Leadership.

  • Permit-Required Confined Spaces
  • Cranes, Derricks, Hoists, Elevators, and Conveyors
  • Ergonomics

  • Fire Protection and Prevention

  • Foundations for Safety Leadership (minimum of 2 hours and 30 min)

OPTIONAL (4 HOURS)
Teach other construction industry hazards or policies and/ or expand on the required or elective topics. The minimum length for any topic is 30 minutes.
