Upon course completion students will have the ability to define general industry terms found in the OSHA General Industry Standards, identify hazards which occur in general industry, locate and determine appropriate OSHA General Industry Standards, policies, and procedures, and describe the use of OSHA General Industry Standards and regulations to supplement an ongoing safety and health program.

OSHA Standards for General Industry 10-hour course is an introductory course for workers to understand the basics of workplace safety, covering:

  • Recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of workplace safety and health hazards.

  • Information regarding workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint.

This course is suitable for entry-level workers in construction and general industries.

OSHA Standards for General Industry 30-hour course is more comprehensive and is tailored for supervisors, managers, or workers with some safety responsibility. It delves deeper into specific hazards and methods to prevent them, covering:

  • Detailed discussions on safety and health topics particular to the industry.

  • Training on the identification, prediction, avoidance, and prevention of hazards.

  • Information on rights of workers and responsibilities of employers.

OSHA Standards for General Industry 30-hour course is designed for Leads, Supervisors, Managers, Safety Committee Members, and Workers with Safety Responsibilities.

OSHA 10-Hour Safety Training General Industry Workers

Mandatory Topics (6 Hours)
  • Introduction to OSHA (2 hours)
    • Rights of workers
    • Responsibilities of employers
    • How to file a complaint
  • Walking and working surfaces (1 hour)—including fall protection
  • Emergency action plans (1 hour)—including exit routes, fire protection, and fire prevention plans
  • Electrical (1 hour)
  • Personal protective equipment (1 hour)
  • Hazard communication (1 hour)
 
Elective Topics (2 Hours)
Minimum of two topics must be covered, minimum length of any topic is 30 minutes:
  • Hazardous materials
  • Materials handling
  • Machine guarding
  • Introduction to industrial hygiene
  • Bloodborne pathogens
  • Ergonomics
  • Safety and health program
  • Fall protection
 
OPTIONAL (2 HOURS)
Teach other industry hazards or policies and/or expand on the required or elective topics. The minimum length of any topic is 30 minutes.
